A few weeks into the working year, most of us fall into old habits. The way we communicate (or not), give feedback, ask for help (or not) determines our work culture.
Here's some of the remarks I keep hearing during my inclusion workshops about those habits. Gen Z thrives on digital first communication, they are unable to even make a phone call. Millennials need to talk about stuff over and over again. Young professionals from Gen X really just wants to be left alone, they prefer autonomy and efficiency. And babyboomers, well they live in the past and just don't get why we use chat gpt every single day.
Common remarks based on general assumptions. There might be some truth to this, but linking certain behaviours to all people of certain generations is dangerous. And complete nonsense. Every individual is different.
Having different generations around a table can be a strength. In reality, it often creates friction.
We have all experienced how misunderstandings in communication or collaboration styles can slowly disconnect teams. It can be a matter of age, but also a matter of background, culture, language, etc.
What to do then? Drill you team to become a bunch of robots? Not my cup of tea. It's our differences as humans that bring a work culture to life.
The better option? Talk about it. Having honest conversations about these differences is the first step toward reconnecting across them.
When people feel safe to say, “this is how I work best,” collaboration becomes easier and more inclusive.
It sounds easy, but you know it isn't.
I am here to give you a hand through a proven step by step approach I have implemented for the past 7 years.
In my workshop “Everyday Inclusive Behaviour”, I guide teams to:
✅ Recognize their different styles and strengths
✅ Develop empathy for other generations’ perspectives
✅ Practice daily habits that reconnecct teams across differences
Because inclusive workplaces where everyone feels like they belong are not about ignoring differences. They are about learning how to bridge them, every day.
👉 Curious how this could work in your team? Let’s talk. Book your free 1-to1 call directly in my calendar here.
